The book of Psalms is more than an ancient song book. Like the book of Proverbs, the 150 psalms offer us plenty of wisdom to light our journey ahead.
You and I find wisdom expressed in four ways.
1. About God to us
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act (Psalm 37:5, NRSV)
God looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God (Psalm 53:2, NRSV)
2. About God from us
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! (Psalm 27:14, NRSV)
Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture (Psalm 100:3, NRSV)
3. From God to us
I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you (Psalm 32:8, NRSV).
Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord (Psalm 34:11, NRSV).
4. To God from us
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105, NRSV).
Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies (Psalm 27:11, NRSV)
What verses from the Psalms would you add to these four categories?
